About Telenor Start IoT
Telenor Start IoT aims to significantly decrease the time-to-market for businesses and startups by providing access to competence, hardware and network connectivity.
The history of Start IoT began in 2016 when Telenor Group CEO Sigve Brekke challenged Telenor Research to come up with an initiative that could build competence and stimulate digital innovation in Norway. Research started by asking our key stakeholders within Norwegian academia, industry and government institutions what direction such an initiative should take. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) came back as the answers. The AI part manifested itself with the opening of Telenor-NTNU AI-Lab together with NTNU and SINTEF on 08/03/2017, while the IoT part came to life through Telenor Start IoT. The IoT and AI initiatives complement each other – IoT will create large sets of data and AI/Machine Learning can and will be used to analyse and extract value from these IoT datasets.
During the fall of 2019, Telenor Start IoT evolved from being a research project, and the initiative was transferred from Telenor Research to Telenor Norway. From January 2020, Telenor Start IoT is an offering for business customers who want to test and develop new IoT use cases without making large up-front investments.
Telenor provides you with the tools you need for creating value on the Internet of Things. Let us learn and innovate together!
